10 thoughts about Hulu’s 'The Land' about the Cleveland Browns

Key Points:

• Hulu’s upcoming scripted TV show, The Land, centers on the Cleveland Browns’ high-stakes world both on the field and in the front office, focusing on a coach trying to save his struggling team and a family power struggle over team ownership.
• The plot involves head coach Danny Roarke, whose fate depends on his newly drafted quarterback son, and owner Hal Durkin deciding which daughter will inherit control, highlighting familial drama alongside football challenges.
• Christopher Meloni stars as the intense Browns coach, bringing credibility to the role, while Bridget Moynahan plays his ex, adding depth to the personal conflicts portrayed.
• The show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, known for emotional storytelling in This Is Us, suggests the series will explore complex family dynamics beyond football, though casting choices, especially for the quarterback role, have raised questions about authenticity.
• There is skepticism about audience buy-in due to the Browns’ reputation as a struggling franchise, and concerns about representation and emotional arcs for people of color given the NFL’s diverse player base.
