Key Points:
- The Chicago Cubs lead Major League Baseball with five Gold Glove Award finalists: Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alex Bregman, Dansby Swanson, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki, highlighting their strong team defense this season.
- Crow-Armstrong, a top contender for the National League MVP, is aiming for his second consecutive Gold Glove after leading all outfielders in defensive metrics such as outs above average (OAA) and fielding run value (FRV).
- Ian Happ seeks his fifth straight Gold Glove, tying a Cubs record last set by Ryne Sandberg, while Seiya Suzuki has significantly improved his defense, leading NL right fielders in defensive runs saved (DRS) and posting a .992 fielding percentage.
- Alex Bregman and Dansby Swanson also stand out defensively at third base and shortstop respectively, with Bregman leading NL third basemen in assists and Swanson ranking highly in multiple defensive categories despite missing time due to injury.
- Chicago White Sox second baseman Chase Meidroth is a finalist for his first Gold Glove, leading AL second basemen in FRV and ranking well in other defensive stats; winners will be announced on November 1 during an ESPN broadcast.
