Pride Of Detroit • • sports
Key Points:
- Kelvin Sheppard acknowledges that promises to fix the Lions' defensive struggles mean little without visible improvement on game day, emphasizing the need for real change rather than lip service.
- The Lions' defensive line has performed well this season, excelling in pass rushing and run defense, but the back seven has failed to complement this effort due to mental errors and poor play.
- Sheppard stands firmly behind the current defensive scheme and blitz calls, warning that abandoning their system would lead to dysfunction despite recent execution issues.
- Addressing trust issues within the defense, Sheppard stresses the importance of players being in the right position and correcting mistakes quickly to avoid teammates overcompensating.
- Sheppard rejects any notion that the offense must carry the defense, asserting that the team operates as a three-phase unit and his defense will fulfill its role without excuses.
