Engadget • • technology
Key Points:
- The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller is priced at an affordable $30, offering essential modern gamepad features like haptic feedback and Hall effect thumbsticks while omitting less critical extras such as RGB lighting and rear-grip buttons.
- It includes six-axis motion control, vibration, tactile bumpers, Hall effect triggers, and an extra mappable button on each shoulder, enhancing gameplay without compromising traditional controls.
- The controller features a lightweight, well-balanced eggshell-style plastic design with textured grips, comparable in size and shape to Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller, and offers a 15-hour battery life with USB-C charging.
- Unlike pricier models, the Ultimate 2C cannot currently wake the Switch 2 console, but a future firmware update may add this feature; it is available in multiple colorways, including a Best Buy exclusive transparent black version.
- Despite lacking some advanced features found in more expensive controllers, the Ultimate 2C delivers excellent performance, comfort, and durability at a fraction of the cost, making it an exceptional value for casual and serious gamers alike.
