Apple says beloved MacBook is now ‘obsolete,’ more products too
9to5Mac • • general
Key Points:
- Apple has added the final 2017 model of the 12-inch MacBook, along with the iPad 6th generation and BeatsX headphones, to its “obsolete” products list, meaning these devices are no longer eligible for repairs or servicing from Apple.
- The 12-inch MacBook line is now entirely obsolete, with previous 2015 and 2016 models already on the list; this model was the last produced before the line was discontinued.
- Apple classifies products as “vintage” if discontinued 5 or more years ago, allowing limited service and parts availability, while “obsolete” status applies to products discontinued 7 or more years ago, with no service support.
- The 12-inch MacBook, intended as a successor to the MacBook Air, had a loyal fan base but did not achieve widespread consumer popularity.
