California couple arrested in Mexico for murder of Clovis teacher
Key Points:
- A married California couple, Antonio Garcia and Misty Gomez, were arrested in Mexico by US Marshals on homicide charges related to the fatal beating of teacher Geoffrey Bernardi in Fresno County.
- Bernardi was attacked on December 18, 2025, and died two days later; Gomez, who was dating Bernardi while still married to Garcia, was the only witness to the attack.
- Investigators found that the attack was targeted, and after Bernardi’s death, Gomez fled to Mexico with her two children, who had been missing from Dinuba since April.
- The children are now in the custody of Mexican child welfare authorities and will be reunited with their families in the US with Child Protective Services' help.
- Garcia and Gomez were extradited to the US, booked on $1 million bail, and are currently held in Fresno pending further legal proceedings.
