Key Points:
- The El Cerrito High School football program has been suspended due to a police investigation into hazing and bullying allegations involving 22 current and former players, with incidents reportedly occurring between September 2024 and October 2026.
- The investigation includes potential crimes such as battery, sexual battery, and stalking, with video evidence supporting some victim allegations; the head football coach has been placed on leave and may face charges.
- Parents and players expressed frustration over the suspension, arguing that the entire program should not be punished before charges are filed, and some players have reportedly been moved to independent study programs.
- The school district first learned of the allegations in October 2026 and immediately referred the matter to law enforcement, emphasizing the need to prevent further harm to students.
- Police expect charges to be filed as the investigation continues, while the community awaits more information amid concerns about the impact on uninvolved players.
