Key Points:
- George Russell posted the fastest time in the only free practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix on soft tyres, despite running an older Mercedes specification car.
- Max Verstappen was notably quicker than anyone else on medium tyres, clocking a time half a second faster than championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
- The session was held in unrepresentative conditions with a track temperature of 53°C, unlike the upcoming night qualifying sessions and race.
- Nico Hulkenberg suffered a gearbox issue, causing a virtual safety car period, and several drivers struggled with car handling and braking problems during the session.
- The top five times were set on soft tyres, with Russell leading, followed by Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, and Oscar Piastri, while Verstappen led medium tyre runners in sixth place.
