HomeView will support video apps like YouTube, Netflix-if they say yes
9to5Mac • • general
Key Points:
- Apple’s new HomeView device supports third-party video apps like YouTube and Netflix if those apps also support CarPlay, according to a recently updated Apple CarPlay Developer Guide.
- HomeView does not have an App Store, so apps cannot be downloaded directly; instead, apps with CarPlay audio or video entitlements will automatically appear on the device.
- Video app support for CarPlay was introduced in iOS 27 but has seen limited adoption due to automakers’ lack of support; HomeView is expected to incentivize developers to enable CarPlay compatibility.
- Major video streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+ are likely to add HomeView support soon, potentially before the device’s November 13 launch.
- HomeView is available for pre-order starting at $289 for select models.
