'I Play Rocky' Submitted as Comedy (Exclusive)
The Hollywood Reporter • • entertainment
Key Points:
- The film "I Play Rocky," about Sylvester Stallone and the making of the 1976 movie "Rocky," has been submitted by Amazon/MGM for Golden Globes consideration in the musical/comedy category rather than drama.
- This submission choice is surprising as the film, while containing humorous moments, was not promoted as a comedy, and the original "Rocky" competed as a drama at the Globes.
- If approved, "I Play Rocky" will compete in musical/comedy categories against films like "Wild Horse Nine," "The Invite," and "Project Hail Mary," instead of drama contenders such as "Dune: Part Three" and "The Odyssey."
- Lead actor Ippolito will compete for best actor in a musical/comedy against notable names including John Malkovich, Ryan Gosling, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt, rather than drama actors like Timothée Chalamet and Matt Damon.
