Deadline • • general
Key Points:
- Danny Trejo responded to backlash over his role in the pro-ICE film "Pawn Shop," produced by Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend, affirming he is "pro-immigrant" and not supportive of ICE, emphasizing his identity as a proud Mexican and actor.
- Production in Livingston, Montana faced protests and was temporarily suspended due to concerns over the use of blank gunshots, pyrotechnics, a staged car wreck, and the film's controversial opening scene depicting ICE's fatal shooting of Renée Good.
- The film resumed with a revised permit requiring provisions for local food pantry access and measures to protect residents from violent scenes and noise, while addressing community concerns about private security's conduct.
- Producer Ben Shapiro condemned the suspension as a First Amendment violation, criticizing opponents as "censorious jackasses," while the production operates without an IATSE contract and under a "conditional start" with SAG-AFTRA.
- "Pawn Shop" stars Danny Trejo, Harvey Keitel, and Henry Thomas, and explores themes of fear, conflicting beliefs, and humanity as a federal agent becomes trapped with a Hispanic father and his progressive son during chaos in Minneapolis.
