Key Points:
- Instagram experienced a glitch causing its algorithm to repeatedly recommend Creed's 1999 hit "Higher" as background music for Stories, regardless of user activity or content.
- Users noticed the persistent appearance of the song among suggested tracks, leading to speculation about a possible promotional deal between Creed and Meta, which Instagram denied.
- Instagram confirmed the issue, stating the song was being recommended to more users than intended and that their engineering team is investigating and working on a fix.
- Music recommendations on Instagram typically consider users’ past song choices and visual content, but the exact cause of this glitch remains unclear.
- In contrast, increased recommendations for Soulja Boy’s “Turn My Swag On” are deemed legitimate by Instagram, reflecting the song’s genuine popularity on the platform.
