MLB rumors: How Yankees could make a Tarik Skubal deal work, plus Mets' priority and a Rangers pivot
CBS Sports • • sports
Key Points:
- The Yankees are considering signing top free agent Tarik Skubal and trading starting pitcher Will Warren to address positional needs at second base, third base, center field, and catcher, despite already having a strong rotation.
- The Mets are actively seeking rotation upgrades, targeting both top-tier free agents like Skubal and mid-level veterans, but are reluctant to trade prospects and face challenges with long-term deals for pitchers under President David Stearns.
- The Texas Rangers will prioritize acquiring center field help after Gold Glove finalist Evan Carter's hip surgery, which will sideline him for the start of the 2027 season, potentially relying on Wyatt Langford as a temporary solution.
- The free agent center field pool is limited, with Trent Grisham, Luis Robert Jr., Daulton Varsho, Cedric Mullins, and Tyrone Taylor projected as the top options, though each carries some risk related to injury or age.
