New weight loss pill that’s beating oral Ozempic
Key Points:
- A Phase 3 clinical trial involving 1,698 adults with Type 2 diabetes found that the new daily weight-loss pill orforglipron outperformed oral semaglutide (Ozempic) in lowering blood sugar and promoting weight loss.
- Orforglipron reduced HbA1c levels by 1.71% to 1.91%, compared to a 1.47% reduction with oral semaglutide, while participants lost an average of 15 pounds versus 10 pounds with semaglutide.
- Marketed as Foundayo and manufactured by Eli Lilly, orforglipron received FDA approval in April and is currently being studied for use in people with obesity without diabetes.
