The Guardian • • general
Key Points:
- Donald Trump launched a 1,300-word social media rant against late-night host Bill Maher, calling him a "TOTAL LOSER" and criticizing his low-rated HBO show.
- The tirade followed Maher's interview with former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, where Maher questioned Trump's potential for "vengeance" if Republicans lose the midterm elections.
- Trump accused Maher of being a coward who praises him privately but insults him publicly, and threatened that Republicans would stop supporting Maher.
- The attack is notable as it comes just a week before the US midterms, amid growing public dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of the economy, cost of living, and foreign policy.
- Trump also disputed several specific points Maher made on his show and insulted Maher personally, including accusations of heavy drinking and calling him a "POTHEAD."
