Yankees news: Boone considering changes to the lineup

Key Points:

• The Yankees used the same lineup in Games 1 and 2 of their ALDS against the Rays, but aside from Ben Rice’s two home runs, most players have struggled; manager Aaron Boone is open to making lineup changes for Game 3, possibly benching underperformers like Ryan McMahon and Jazz Chisholm Jr.
• Max Fried is scheduled to start for the Rays in Game 3 despite his partner’s imminent childbirth, expressing commitment to the team as they face elimination against the Yankees.
• The Yankees, down 0-2 in the series, have reasons for optimism including their strong pitching staff and the advantage of returning home, although defensive lapses and previous struggles at Tropicana Field remain concerns.
• Historically, the Yankees have managed reverse sweeps in the ALDS, but recent teams under Aaron Boone have found it difficult to rebound after falling behind in a series; the current squad aims to change that trend.
• Former Yankees pitcher ‘Sudden’ Sam McDowell, a six-time All-Star who played for the team in 1973-74, passed away recently; condolences have been extended to his family and friends.
