5 Takeaways From Look At 'Friends' Star's Life & Death

Key Points:

• Netflix's docuseries The One About Matthew Perry, directed by Mary Robertson, offers a three-hour look at the late actor's life, focusing largely on familiar stories of his struggles with addiction and fame, but lacks new insights or depth.
• Notably absent are interviews with Perry's Friends co-stars or creators, limiting the series' perspective mainly to Perry's memoir and interviews with friends and family, which some viewers may find disappointing.
• The docuseries explores Perry's complex relationship with fame, highlighting his early ambition and later insecurities, but tends to portray him more as a victim of circumstance rather than holding him accountable for his actions.
• While acknowledging Perry's broader career beyond Friends, including praised TV roles, the series falls short in fully exploring these aspects or his efforts to move beyond his iconic character Chandler Bing.
• The coverage of Perry's death and the surrounding investigation is brief and lacks nuance, leaving the final part of the series feeling rushed and incomplete, which contributes to an overall sense of superficiality in the documentary.
