Americans remain critical of Trump’s approach to Iran
Key Points:
- A majority of Americans (62%) disapprove of President Trump’s handling of the U.S. military conflict with Iran, with 45% strongly disapproving, while 36% approve; these views have remained steady since March.
- Nearly six-in-ten Americans (59%) believe the U.S. made the wrong decision in using military force against Iran, and 51% now say the military action is going not too or not at all well, up from 45% a month ago.
- Public uncertainty is high regarding the Trump administration’s goals in the conflict, with 48% saying the goals are not clear and only 24% saying they are very or extremely clear; about half of Americans (49%) lack confidence that the administration will achieve its goals.
- Partisan divides are significant: Democrats are much more likely than Republicans to disapprove of Trump’s handling (90% vs. 32%) and to view the military action as going poorly (76% vs. 26%), while Republicans are more likely to see the administration’s goals as clear (45%) compared to Democrats (16%).
- Despite Republican support, nearly a third of Republicans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the conflict, indicating some intra-party skepticism about the military action against Iran.
