Boston Sports Journal • • sports
Key Points:
- Drake Maye showed significant improvement by playing more in rhythm with the offense, demonstrating better pocket presence and timing on key throws to Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, and Efton Chism during the Patriots' upset over the Bills.
- A critical holding penalty on Buffalo negated a poor decision by Maye near the goal line, giving the Patriots a second chance that contributed to their scoring drive.
- Maye's touchdown passes, including a well-executed throw to Doubs despite pressure, highlighted his growing composure and ability to read defensive coverages effectively.
- The Patriots' game-winning drive capitalized on these improvements, while Buffalo's Josh Allen made a costly error with a game-sealing interception that sealed the upset.
- Overall, Maye's performance marked a notable step forward in his development, though there remains room for growth to reach elite quarterback status.
