Best hitters in 2026-2027 MLB free-agent class

Key Points:

• Tarik Skubal is the uncontested top pitcher and overall player in the current MLB free-agent market, while the competition for top hitter is more open with several strong candidates.
• Munetaka Murakami, Kazuma Okamoto, and Yoshinobu Sato represent promising Japanese sluggers, with Sato boasting a recent Triple Crown in Nippon Professional Baseball but lacking MLB experience.
• Among established MLB hitters, Seiya Suzuki has been a consistent power hitter with improving defense, though concerns exist about his baserunning and potential decline in offensive production.
• Randy Arozarena offers rare power-speed combination with six consecutive 20-20 seasons, but his defensive struggles and questions about offensive consistency temper his appeal.
• Domestic free agents like Brandon Lowe and Rowdy Tellez bring solid power and defense, though Lowe's durability and Tellez's defensive limitations are points of caution.
• Eric Arraez is noted for exceptional contact hitting and improved defense, but his lack of power and uncertainty about sustaining recent performance raise concerns.
• Jazz Chisholm leads domestic free agents in WAR and defensive value recently but faces questions due to a decline in offensive metrics in 2026 and an injury-prone history.
