The Register • • technology
Key Points:
- Firefox 157 introduces the "Nova" theme, described by Mozilla as the browser's biggest visual refresh in years, featuring more rounded buttons and tabs with a faint violet-purple tint.
- The update includes modest but useful improvements such as hardware compression for WebRTC video calls, a fix for upside-down video bugs, and expanded Firefox Suggest functionality to 16 additional European countries.
- Usability enhancements include focusing on the search box immediately when opening new tabs and preventing premature text searches on pages that haven't fully loaded.
- The sidebar is now more customizable with an option to disable the new version, although the ability to toggle the sidebar from the Settings screen has been removed.
- Mozilla has begun sponsoring Wrexham AFC, a historic Welsh football club now owned by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, who also own the local Wrexham Lager brewery, marking a notable branding partnership.
