Google Messages homepage redesign: Pinned chat, bottom search
9to5Google • • technology
Key Points:
- Google Messages for Android is testing a major homepage redesign featuring pinned chats, a bottom search button, and a new shortcut placement for Gemini.
- Pinned chats are now prominently displayed with large contact photos above all other conversations, similar to iMessage, but this layout hides chat history and last message info.
- The search function is being moved to a centered floating action button (FAB) alongside the new chat button, improving one-handed usability with animated transitions.
- The Gemini shortcut has been relocated from a FAB to a button in the top-right corner next to the profile image, aligning with Workspace app designs.
- These redesign elements are currently in beta and are being rolled out gradually to users rather than all at once.
