PCMag • • technology
Key Points:
- Apple has introduced its first touch-screen MacBook Pro models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, featuring a new PROLED XDR Display with tandem OLED technology, delivering deeper blacks, vibrant colors, and up to 2,000 nits brightness.
- The new MacBook Pros are thinner and lighter than previous models, with improved portability achieved by eliminating the screen backlight and using a less dense metal frame; they also reintroduce the illuminated Apple logo on the lid.
- The displays support a 120Hz refresh rate with ProMotion technology and include Apple’s Dynamic Island feature for macOS, enhancing usability with touch and AI integration.
- Powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the laptops offer up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage, along with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity.
- Starting prices are $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch model, with preorders open and general sales beginning November 6; the touch screen and OLED upgrades represent a significant price increase but may set a new standard for professional laptops.
