iPhone Duo inner display has a replaceable $19 top layer
AppleInsider • • technology
Key Points:
- AppleCare coverage for the iPhone Duo offers affordable repair options, including a $99 full inner display replacement and a $19 swappable cover layer replacement through Authorized Apple Service Providers.
- The iPhone Duo features a removable cover layer designed to wear in over time, with Apple intending it as a user-replaceable component after extended use, though not currently recommended for self-service.
- Other AppleCare repair costs include $29 for front display or back glass repairs, $99 for accidental damage repair, and $149 for theft or loss replacement.
- While the cover layer might be removable, Apple has engineered the iPhone Duo and its hinge to work specifically with the first-party cover, making third-party alternatives or DIY replacements potentially risky and warranty-invalidating.
- Consumers are advised to wait for professional reviews and testing before attempting any cover layer replacements to avoid damage or voiding AppleCare coverage.
