Page Six • • general
Key Points:
- Jenna Dewan will perform with former “Dancing With the Stars” pro Alan Bersten on Oct. 20 after her regular partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, was suspended for one week due to a controversial social media post.
- Chmerkovskiy’s suspension followed his TikTok posts referencing Will Smith’s Oscars incident, which were seen as a defense of his wife, fellow pro Jenna Johnson, after judge Carrie Ann Inaba criticized Johnson’s samba lift.
- BBC Studios stated that Chmerkovskiy’s post was inappropriate and did not reflect the show’s values, emphasizing that the well-being of everyone involved is non-negotiable.
- Chmerkovskiy publicly apologized to Inaba, acknowledging his poor judgment and expressing regret for causing a distraction during an important week for the show and his dance partner Dewan.
- The incident sparked tension on the show, with Inaba highlighting the rules about lifts during performances and Johnson reportedly upset backstage, though Johnson later expressed understanding of the judge’s critique.
