Key Points:
- The Houston Astros are searching for their fourth manager in seven years following Joe Espada's departure, weighing options between experienced candidates and younger, innovative coaches.
- Potential candidates with managerial experience include David Ross, Rocco Baldelli, Brad Ausmus, and Omar López, who have ties to the Astros or notable MLB managerial backgrounds.
- Younger, cutting-edge candidates like Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann and White Sox bench coach Walker McKinven are also considered attractive options due to their fresh perspectives and strong coaching resumes.
- Controversial figures such as Alex Cora and Carlos Beltrán, both linked to the Astros' sign-stealing scandal, are unlikely to be pursued despite their managerial experience.
- Other candidates include Rodney Linares, with deep Astros minor league roots and success with the Tampa Bay Rays, and Morgan Ensberg, a former Astros player with minor league managing experience but no major league coaching background.
