The Hollywood Reporter • • general
Key Points:
- Netflix has ordered a live-action prequel series titled "Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure," set in 1950s New Mexico, expanding the Stranger Things universe with a new cast and story.
- The Duffer Brothers will co-create but have handed creative control to longtime writer Kate Trefry and Golden Globe-winning director Joe Wright, who will direct the first three episodes.
- The prequel is expected to explore UFO, alien, or outer space themes, hinted by the setting and the Duffers’ comment to "watch the skies."
- Executive producers include the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, and others, with production by Netflix and 21 Laps; the original Stranger Things series concluded earlier this year after four seasons.
- Despite the Duffers' recent deal with Paramount, Netflix remains committed to the Stranger Things franchise, aiming to deliver a fresh yet familiar experience for fans.
