Ohio State quarterback Luke Fahey: What to expect against USC
Cleveland.com • • sports
Key Points:
- Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has not officially named a new starting quarterback following Julian Sayin’s season-ending injury, but Luke Fahey is widely expected to take over the role.
- Ohio State has a history of starting true freshman quarterbacks in challenging circumstances, including Terrelle Pryor (2009), Braxton Miller (2011), and Kyle McCord (2021), with mixed results.
- Fahey’s situation combines elements from past freshmen starters, as he replaces an injured starter and faces a high-pressure road game against a conference opponent with postseason stakes.
- Unlike previous freshmen starters who were five-star recruits, Fahey was not, but he earned the starting opportunity by outperforming higher-rated competition.
- Expectations for Fahey include flashes of talent mixed with typical rookie mistakes, as he navigates the difficult challenge of leading Ohio State on a significant stage.
