Key Points:
- Walker Buehler was placed on the paternity list shortly after the Padres announced their roster, with Randy Vásquez set to replace him temporarily.
- Buehler was initially a candidate to start Game 1 of the NLDS but was pushed back to start Game 3 or 4, with Robbie Ray starting Game 1 and Michael King starting Game 2.
- Manager Craig Stammen explained the decision was made to allow Buehler to be present for the birth of his child without the added pressure of pitching on that day.
- The Padres will carry 11 pitchers and 15 hitters on their roster for the NLDS, maintaining the same balance used successfully in the Wild Card Series.
- Stammen emphasized the advantage of having 15 hitters, allowing for strategic matchups and versatility against different pitchers.
