Key Points:
- The Phillies re-signed left-handed reliever Tim Mayza to a one-year deal and hired former Mets manager Carlos Mendoza as their third base and infield coach.
- Mayza, who joined the Phillies off waivers in August 2025, had a strong 2026 season with a 3.48 ERA over 67 1/3 innings, showing effectiveness against both left- and right-handed hitters.
- The Phillies currently have limited left-handed relief options, with Tanner Banks recovering from injury and other lefties like José Alvarado and Brooks Raley nearing free agency or showing inconsistent performance.
- Alvarado struggled in 2026 with a 5.86 ERA, while Raley had mixed results, performing well early but faltering in September, leading to his exclusion from the Phillies' Wild Card roster.
