Texas election results 2026: Live updates on U.S. Senate, governor and statewide races

Key Points:

• Democrats achieved historic wins in Texas, with James Talarico winning the U.S. Senate race—the first Democratic Senate victory in the state since 1988—and Gina Hinojosa defeating Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, ending over 30 years of GOP control of the governor's office.
• Voter turnout was notably high, with more than 7.7 million Texans casting early and mail-in ballots, representing over 40% of registered voters, signaling strong engagement in the election.
• Other key statewide races showed Democratic leads as well, including Vikki Goodwin for lieutenant governor, Nathan Johnson for attorney general, Sarah Eckhardt for comptroller, Jon Rosenthal for Railroad Commissioner, Clayton Tucker for agriculture commissioner, and Benjamin Flores for land commissioner.
• These results indicate a significant political shift in Texas, a state long dominated by Republicans, with Democrats now poised to control multiple major offices and influence state policy on education, healthcare, energy, and fiscal management.
• Republican incumbents, including Gov. Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, conceded or trailed in their bids for reelection, marking an unprecedented change in Texas' political landscape ahead of the 2024 election cycle.
