Engadget • • technology
Key Points:
- 8BitDo's Ultimate 2 wireless Switch 2 controller offers superior features compared to Nintendo's Switch 2 Pro Controller, including TMR joysticks, Hall effect triggers, extra bumpers, adjustable haptics, and RGB lighting, all at a lower price of $70.
- The controller is compact, ergonomic, and comfortable for long gaming sessions, with customizable buttons, three profiles, and a dedicated charging dock included in the package.
- Ultimate 2 supports both 2.4G and Bluetooth connections, with seamless pairing and the ability to wake the console via motion, providing versatile connectivity options.
- While the controller's front buttons are somewhat hard to distinguish visually, this minor issue is common among Switch 2 controllers and can be mitigated by muscle memory.
- Compared to Nintendo's Pro Controller, the Ultimate 2 lacks a 3.5mm audio jack and NFC reader but compensates with advanced features and a significantly lower price, making it a compelling alternative for Switch 2 gamers.
