Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo Missile Destroys Russian Factory Behind Navigation Systems for Drones and Kalibr Missiles
Key Points:
- On June 10, a Ukrainian FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missile struck the VNIIR-Progress defense electronics plant in Cheboksary, Russia, damaging one of its buildings and causing a plume of smoke.
- VNIIR-Progress produces navigation and antenna systems used in various Russian military platforms, including drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, and guided aerial bombs.
- The plant, located about 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, manufactures satellite navigation receivers compatible with GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo, and is part of the ABS Electro industrial group.
- Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the strike was conducted by Ukrainian Missile Forces and Artillery units using FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles, which have a reported range of up to 3,000 kilometers for deep strikes inside Russia.
- This facility has been previously targeted by Ukraine’s long-range strike operations, including a similar FP-5 missile attack in May 2026, followed by drone strikes.
