We're witnessing a critical moment for Amazon Kindles
Android Authority • • technology
Key Points:
- Amazon refreshed its 2026 Kindle lineup with redesigned hardware featuring a flush-front screen, faster book opening, and improved display contrast on higher-end models.
- The company introduced new accessories, including the $35 Kindle Click Bluetooth remote for page-turning and an $80 Page-Turn Cover with physical buttons, but the latter is only compatible with the expensive Signature Editions.
- Physical page-turn buttons return as an optional accessory, but are locked behind premium models, pushing the minimum cost for this feature to $330, which may drive users towards cheaper alternatives like Kobo.
- Despite hardware improvements, the entry-level Kindle still lacks a warm front light, and the software experience remains heavily tied to Amazon’s ecosystem, limiting customization and user control.
- While Amazon appears to be listening more to its enthusiast users, the restrictive accessory compatibility and continued premium pricing may hinder its ability to regain market goodwill against Android-powered e-readers and competitors.
