Yankees lose ALDS Game 1 to Rays as Austin Wells is thrown out at third after breaking up no-hitter
Fox News • • general
Key Points:
- Austin Wells broke up Drew Rasmussen’s no-hit bid with a double in the eighth inning but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple, ending New York’s best scoring chance in a 1-0 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 1 of the ALDS.
- Rasmussen pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out 10, dominating the Yankees lineup once again.
- Jonathan Aranda provided the game’s only run with a solo home run off Gerrit Cole in the third inning, which proved decisive.
- The Yankees’ offense, missing captain Aaron Judge due to injury, was held to just one hit and failed to score, contrasting sharply with their recent offensive surge in the Wild Card Series.
- The best-of-five series continues Monday at Tropicana Field, with Cam Schlittler slated to start Game 2 for the Yankees.
