6. Macbook air vs pro

I need a laptop mainly for long hours of studying (10-15 hours in a stretch), then I'll be using it for work and college applications. I will only be doing basic editing, if at all. And then all the basic stuff like netflix, YouTube etc.

I've heard that you should get the pro if you plan on using it for longer hours because it has a fan. But does that apply if those long hours are put for basic studying?

I also prefer the bigger screen size but 16" is way out of budget. The difference between the m3 14" Pro 18GB and m3 15" Air 16GB is 200$ though. Can someone please shed more light on this?

Have you considered getting a Lenovo laptop? My son got a really nice ultra book with an extended warranty for far less than a MacBook and it is still going strong 6 yrs on into his master program

For long hours of studying, a laptop with good battery life and a comfortable keyboard is essential. Between the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the main difference is the cooling system - the Pro has a fan, while the Air relies on passive cooling.

If you're only doing basic tasks like studying, browsing, and streaming, the MacBook Air should be sufficient. The fan in the Pro is more necessary for resource-intensive tasks like video editing or software development.

Considering your budget and preferences, the 15" MacBook Air with 16GB RAM seems like a great option. The larger screen size will be beneficial for studying and multitasking, and the price difference of $200 is reasonable.

Keep in mind that the MacBook Air's passive cooling system might lead to slightly warmer temperatures during extended use, but it shouldn't be a major concern for basic tasks. If you're still unsure, consider visiting an Apple Store to compare the two models in person. (I hope I explained this well😅)
