Flickers

It's mating season and we've got male flickers (a woodpecker-like bird for those that aren't familiar with them) pecking up a storm to attract their mate!  They seem to especially like pecking at our metal chimney flu, starting at 6:30 a.m.!

Oh no!   Are they at least fun to watch when they aren't waking you up at 6am?

They are actually quite cool (though notorious for their pecking - one has made a hole in the siding of our neighbour's house!).  I kind of like their drumbeat of their pecking (though not at 6:30 a.m.).  The other day there were 3 or 4 females lined up on a branch watching (or listening?) as the male does his thing!

Attached is a photo of the Northern Flicker which we get around here.

      That's cool
I have a pair of nuthatches in one of my trees.   They peck away too.   Fun to watch and they make cute little noises

I have a pair of flickers that come to a suet block I put out by my bird feeders. They seem to like pecking on an oak tree in my yard.
