Some notable facts in history today are:
1911- during an expedition to the Andes Mountains, explorer and scholar Hiram Bingham III rediscovered the ancient Inca mountain city Machu Picchu.
1917- Mata Hari's trial began in France. The courtesy was accused of spying for Germany. She was found guilty and executed by firing squad.
1938- Nestlé introduced their instant coffee Nescafé
1987- Columbia pictures released LA Bamba featuring Lou Diamond Phillips. The film is about the singer Ritchie Valens whose career was cut short when his plane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa
