Doug Salomon
A lot of people don't really know the character but may be familiar with some of the phrases associated with him. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow Knows. The weed of crime bears bitter fruit.
The Shadow is one of my favourite characters. He first showed up in radio programming (before television was a thing), then pulp novels (before comic books were a thing), and eventually to most other forms of popular media.

The Shadow is a kind of dark avenger kind of character, sort of like Batman. He is actually one of the inspirations for the character Batman. They both operate in the dark. They both have rich alter-egos. They both use a variety of gadgets that they keep secreted in their person There are a couple of comics where Batman and The Shadow team up. In one of them, Batman even states that the Shadow was an inspiration to him early on.
