Miss Saigon

I wrote my masters thesis listening to this soundtrack. I've never seen Madame Butterfly, but I've heard it's basically the same story. Western soldier meets Asian prostitute, falls in love, leaves during the fall of the city, and finds out they have a child together. It's a heart-wrenching story with a sad ending. Lea Salonga's voice though!

18.15 - I desperately want to see Miss Saigon. Sadly, I live in a cornfield in the bible belt so the chances of that particular show getting anywhere near my area are slim to none. And I'm poor so traveling is out of the question. Oh well, yet another dream that will never be realized.

There is a version on YouTube. It's not great but it's there. It beats not seeing it at all. I love this musical.

18.42 - I will have to look for it. During covid, when Broadway went dark and YouTube put up 1 free Broadway show a week for awhile I was able to see shows I never would have gotten to otherwise.

18.44 - I am only aware of this musical because a classmate of mine performed a song from Miss Saigon at our Cabaret Night (a night of Broadway songs and one act plays performed by students). I fell in love from that one song.

I will guess that it's based loosely on many peoples stories during the war.

Probably so. I know American soldiers left so many children there.
