An Americano is an espresso based beverage with extra hot water added in order to make it closer to a cup of brewed (American style) coffee.
It has that nice espresso flavour but without the intensity. It's also nice because it's a nicely sized cup of coffee, not just a shot.
Pro-tip: Order yours with a "long shot". They will let the water run through the espresso a bit longer, which really brings out the full flavour.
