They like small, enclosed spaces. It's a predator thing; the box allows the cat to see anything that may come towards them while protecting their backs.

Yeah... And Stormy completely snubs any cat bed I've ever tried with her. Luckily, my Amazon habit keeps my kitty well supplied with boxes to sleep, bathe, play, and hide in.
