2026 Midterm Elections Live Updates: Voters Head to the Polls to Decide Control of Congress

Key Points:

• Former President Trump repeatedly referenced Iran to signal willingness to escalate military action while simultaneously pushing for a diplomatic deal, aiming to influence public perception ahead of elections and secure a foreign policy legacy.
• Major U.S. networks and digital platforms planned extensive, multi-hour coverage of the midterm election results, reflecting the high stakes of the elections for control of Congress and state governorships.
• The Department of Homeland Security's investigation into noncitizen voting has resulted in very few charges, undermining claims of widespread voter fraud and raising questions about the allocation of federal resources toward this effort.
• Republicans face potential losses in the midterms amid economic dissatisfaction and internal campaign challenges, while Democrats seek to expand their influence in traditionally Republican districts and states.
• Concerns about federal involvement at polling sites, voting machine integrity, and election monitoring persist, but officials emphasize legal protections, rigorous oversight, and preparedness to ensure a fair and secure election process.
