Yahoo • • general
Key Points:
- Carrie Ann Inaba reportedly felt threatened by Val Chmerkovskiy's Will Smith joke on Dancing with the Stars and raised her concerns with the show's HR department at BBC.
- BBC Studios confirmed Val Chmerkovskiy will be suspended for one episode, missing the next live show, Dedication Night, following the controversy.
- The incident began after Inaba criticized Val's wife Jenna Johnson's dance routine, leading Val to joke about the "Fresh Prince" referencing Will Smith's Oscars slap, which sparked the conflict.
- Despite Val's public apology and direct outreach to Inaba, the suspension proceeded, with Alan Bersten stepping in as Jenna Dewan's dance partner.
- Val has received support from colleagues, and rumors about him unfollowing fellow cast members are false; it remains unclear if he will be paid for the missed episode.
