Key Points:
- At the Android Dev Summit 2026, Google announced that Googlebook detachables will be the next major form factor following clamshells and convertibles.
- Currently, four out of five Googlebook devices are clamshells, with the Acer Googlebook 14 being the only convertible featuring a 2-in-1 design for laptop, tent, and tablet modes.
- Googlebook OS has some limitations at launch, such as the homescreen and app tray only supporting landscape mode, indicating further development is needed before a fully functional detachable device is released.
- The first Googlebook detachable is expected from Lenovo, featuring a detachable keyboard, kickstand, and a Glowbar next to the camera, as revealed by recent leaks.
- The introduction of Googlebook OS on tablets suggests a shift toward a more desktop-like experience for high-end Android tablets, potentially redefining their operating system landscape.
