Engadget • • general
Key Points:
- Microsoft is integrating AI chatbot functionality into the Windows 11 Task Bar's Search Menu, allowing users to perform thousands of actions via short typed commands starting this fall.
- The redesigned Search experience enables faster, more contextual interactions, such as adjusting settings like dark mode or microphone volume, and sending texts from a paired phone without leaving the Task Bar.
- Microsoft introduced Hybrid Intelligence, a new feature that allows AI models to run locally on PCs, enhancing privacy and reducing cloud dependency while enabling Copilot to access local files and perform tasks securely.
- Hybrid Intelligence improves coding assistance by supporting native Windows app development with enhanced security through Microsoft Execution Containers, and it also upgrades Autopilot, the personal AI agent, to manage local files without cloud involvement.
- The rollout of Copilot features powered by Hybrid Intelligence will begin in the coming months, promising a more integrated and efficient AI experience within Windows 11.
