Physical PS3 Discs Can Now Emulate Games On PS5s Too
Kotaku • • technology
Key Points:
- Coder Swordpdf has developed RPS5S3, an emulator that allows jailbroken PS5 consoles to play physical PS3 discs, following their earlier release of PS5SX2 for PS2 games.
- RPS5S3 is currently in an unfinished "Test Build 3" stage and is not yet available for public download on GitHub.
- The emulator appears to be a fork of the PC-based RPCS3 emulator and is likely created using AI-assisted coding, similar to Swordpdf’s previous PS5SX2 project.
- Early reports from the PS5SX2 Discord indicate several popular PS3 titles like Grand Theft Auto IV and God of War: Ascension are playable on RPS5S3.
- The rapid development timeline suggests significant use of AI tools, as porting such complex software manually in just a few days would be highly unlikely.
