Can intermittent fasting cause muscle loss? If so, are there modifications that will minimize muscle loss?

Yes it can cause muscle lost especially if not used properly. Make sure you get enough protein and do regular strength training. Try shorter fasting periods and maybe add some BCAA supplements. Stay hydrated, eat well, and get plenty of sleep to reduce the muscle loss

I think you have to make sure you have a balanced diet still and still exercise.

I think, if you take enough amount of protein and do the muscle exercise while you are intermittent fasting, you don't worry about muscle loss.
