Yes, research has shown that individuals of African or African American descent have a higher risk of developing high blood pressure compared to other racial or ethnic groups. Approximately 55% of Black adults in the United States have high blood pressure, a rate that is among the highest in the world. This increased risk is influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and social factors, including limited access to healthcare and healthy foods, and higher rates of conditions like obesity and diabetes, which further elevate the risk of hypertension-related complications such as heart disease and stroke (American Heart Association, 2023).
