How to get watches to synch?

I have a garmin watch and it used to synch with my phone and all the steps would count on here, but now I'm only getting like 6,000 steps here when my watch is 14,000. It used to be fine, did something happen and does anyone know how to fix it?

I feel like it only works with certain watches cause it has not worked for me
